Montana’s Poop Bag Etiquette: What You Need to Know
There is a growing problem in Montana, and something needs to be done about it. There are several dog owners than apparently don't understand the responsibility of owning a pet. The negligence of pet owners in the state is negatively impacting outdoor enthusiasts.
Understanding Proper Poop Bag Etiquette in Montana
If you take your dog on a hike or to any public space, it is your responsibility to clean up after it. Sure, it's a thoughtful gesture to bag it up, but please don't leave the bags along trails and in areas shared with others. It's become a major problem in Montana. There's nothing worse than trying to enjoy Montana's beauty and stepping in a big pile of poop.
Some Montanans seem to have an obsession with doggie doo-doo bags and post a picture on social media every time they see one. I wonder if any of the people that take pictures actually take the time to pick up the bag and throw it away. Sadly, it's not just on trails. Little baggies are being left on sidewalks in towns and cities throughout the state.
So, why aren't the bags being thrown in the trash? I don't understand. In my opinion, dog poop etiquette should be similar to camping etiquette. You should always pack it out. Don't leave it for someone else to deal with. If you do, you probably shouldn't own a dog. Let's make sure we're all doing our part to keep Montana's public lands beautiful.
