Montana is home to some incredible concert venues, and music lovers across the state spend their hard-earned money to see their favorite artists perform live.

As a self-proclaimed music nerd, concerts are a huge part of my life. Almost every vacation I take revolves around live music in some way. When I go to a show, I like to immerse myself completely, and try to avoid anything that will distract me from enjoying the music.

Would This New Rule Make Concerts Better in Montana?

But as someone who’s only 5'7", concerts can be a challenge. If you’re on the shorter side like me, you know the struggle of trying to see the stage when you’re surrounded by taller people. Most of the time, I just shift around until I find a decent view. However, there’s one thing that really gets under my skin.

I get it. We all want to capture memories and show off the experience to our friends. But when an entire sea of glowing screens blocks the view, it can get pretty frustrating.

Recently, I took a trip to Austin, TX, with a few friends and attended a show at Joe Rogan’s new comedy club, Comedy Mothership. Upon entering, we were required to turn off our cell phones and place them in locked pouches for the duration of the performance. We kept our phones with us, but we couldn’t use them until after the show. Honestly, it was refreshing.

Some artists have even banned cell phones at concerts. Understandably, not everyone is thrilled about the rule. Apparently, none of them went to concerts before 1998.

Many concerns center around safety. What if there’s an emergency? Others worry about missing important calls, like a babysitter checking in on their kids. And, of course, some fans just don’t like the idea of not being able to take their own pictures.

I understand these concerns, but personally, I’m all for it. Without a phone in your hand, you can fully experience the music and the atmosphere. No distractions, no notifications. Just pure, uninterrupted live entertainment.
