Nick Jonas Feared Kevin and Joe ‘Would Never Speak to Me Again’ After Initiating Jonas Brothers Breakup
Ever since announcing their triumphant return, the Jonas Brothers have been candid about their past (frustrations and all) and are opening up about their breakup in 2013. Now, in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning that's set to air June 2, Nick, Joe, and Kevin are diving even deeper into their reasons for splitting up, with the youngest brother admitting it was he who initiated the breakup.
"To call it creative differences is almost too simple," Nick said. "And I think a lot of people lost the appetite for what we were putting into the world. So, you know, we were putting up shows that weren't selling. We were making music that I don’t think we were all super proud of, and it wasn't connected."
"And so I had a very tough conversation with [Kevin and Joe] where I laid it out for them," he continued. "I said, 'You know, I feel like the Jonas Brothers should be no more, and we should go on individual journeys.' And it didn’t go so well. ... And I feared that, you know, we — they would never speak to me again."
That, of course, wasn't the case as the brothers stayed close after embarking on their solo journeys. And now that they're back and better than ever, they don't regret their time apart.
"I think we — we definitely were supposed to go through all of what we went through to get to this point, definitely," Joe reflected. "I think it was, it was kind of, I guess you could say destiny, whatever it may be, but yeah, we got a do-over, and I think this time around we’re going to do it right."
The Jonas Brothers have already shared comeback singles "Sucker" and "Cool," and plan to release a new album, Happiness Begins, on June 7 before embarking on a massive summer tour.
