Expanding on its online library, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata has announced that Nintendo DS titles are going to the Virtual Console for the Wii U.

Polygon reported that Iwata's announcement of Nintendo DS titles coming to the Wii U is a part of Nintendo's attempt to pull itself out of the slump it has been stuck in. Unfortunately, Iwata did not confirm what actual DS titles would be ported over to the Wii U. Nintendo's commander-in-chief also did not give any sort of launch window as to when we can expect to download these games from the Wii U's Virtual Console.

The addition of DS titles to the Wii U's Virtual Console library is a sign that there needs to be more incentives to help boost the sales of the system. On the other hand, this announcement reminds us that the Nintendo 3DS has yet to have any type of 16-bit gaming (both SNES and Genesis) put onto its handheld Virtual Console library. Still, good news all around as the Gamepad is perfect for DS gaming, and there's a whole bunch of classic titles we wouldn't mind seeing released again since they're awful hard to come by these days.
