Officials with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks released information that they have euthanized a sub-adult male grizzly bear.

The bear was captured and killed on Tuesday, April 23 in the Helmville Valley, south of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The decision to put the bear down was made because of its involvement with calf and other livestock depredations.

The grizzly most recently killed a calf on April 20. The bear killed two calves prior to its capture and was suspected of being connected to three depredations last year in the same area.

According to FWP, the decision to euthanize the animal was in consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and in accordance with Interagency Grizzly Bear Committee guidelines.

Information provided by Montana FWP was used in this report.
