Target Pulls Inappropriate Whitney Houston Greeting Card
While it may have been funny before, it’s not funny now. Target has pulled a greeting card off its shelves that pokes fun at the late Whitney Houston.
The card, which takes a jab at the iconic singer’s declining career, was available prior to the singer’s death. However, the joke now reads in poor taste: “Next time you think of dating the bad boy, consider Whitney Houston.”
Target clearly didn’t find the sentiment offensive while Houston was alive, but things have changed since she passed. “The card was in our stores prior to Ms. Houston’s death,” a rep for the chain told TMZ. “As soon as this was brought to our attention, we began the process of removing the card from all applicable stores.”
Houston’s premature death shocked fans around the world, and while her passing has led to some controversy, she has been widely celebrated ever since. The singer’s death was recently ruled as an accident, although authorities are still waiting for the results of a toxicology report.
Houston will appear in the posthumous release of ‘Sparkle,’ and a biopic — for which Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks are reportedly in the running to portray the star — is said to be in the works.
