This Is One Of The Most Popular Foods In Montana? Do you agree?
I grew up in Sedalia Missouri, which is just an hour east of Kansas City. Sedalia has a couple of claims to fame, but for the sake of this article, we're only going to mention one.
The Guberburger.
Now, maybe you're wondering what exactly is a Guberburger? I mean, it's a weird name, right? Well, let me tell you about the Guberburger because it's just one of the most delicious culinary creations ever.
The Guberburger was a staple at the Wheel-In Drive-In for decades. A proper Guberburger is a steak burger, topped with a thin layer of peanut butter, then lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a bun. It might not sound all that appetizing, but I assure you, they are heavenly.
So, you can imagine my excitement when I found out about the Nut Burger.
The Nut Burger was invented at Matt's Place Drive-In in Butte. Before it closed, Matt's Place was thought to be the oldest drive-in in Montana, dating back all the way to 1930, and was on the list of the National Register of Historic Places. Much like the Wheel-in was in my hometown, Matt's Place was the perfect example of "the good old days". The type of place where grandparents take their grandkids and tell them about going there when they were children.
So what exactly is a Nut Burger?
A Nut Burger is a beef patty, topped with chopped salted peanuts and then Miracle Whip all together on a bun. I don't know about you, but that sounds amazing. I mean, what's not to love, right?
While Matt's Place is closed, the Nut Burger lives on. Much like my beloved Guberburger, the Nut Burger can be made at home. Sure, it's not the same as actually going to the place and having the whole experience, but it can certainly bring back some pretty good memories of days gone by.
