A few years ago, I visited Glacier National Park for the first time. My nephew had flown out from Missouri, and I wanted to show him around Montana. Naturally, a trip to Glacier was on the list of things to do. When we set out on our journey, we had no idea what would transire over the next 48 hours. I wasn't prepared to be scared to death by border security.

We left Bozeman on a Saturday morning, and arrived at Many Glacier a few hours later. The drive is full of beautiful scenery and interesting things to see. When we got to the Many Glacier Hotel, we went inside to check in and get a key for our room. After we got settled in, I realized that my car keys were missing. My nephew and I dug through all of our luggage trying to find then, but didn't have any luck. I ended up having to call a locksmith in Browning that showed up about an hour later. Surprisingly, he didn't charge me an arm and a leg.

MY INTERESTING ENCOUNTER WITH BORDER SECURITY IN MONTANA

The next morning, we decided to drive 10 miles north to the Canadian border. My nephew and I had never been to Canada and were curious about what the border crossing looked like. The plan was to drive to the border, turn around, and drive back. However, it didn't really go as planned.

When we arrived at the border, there were signs informing us that we were about to leave the United States, so we turned around. A few seconds later my nephew says;

I think those people want you to stop.

I looked to my right and saw four border patrol agents running across a field with guns drawn. They were telling me to stop my vehicle immediately and take the keys out of the ignition. I quickly obeyed their orders and raised my hands above my head. MY nephew looked scared out of his mind. Apparently, the agents didn't see me drive by the first time, and only saw me driving back. I told them that my nephew and I had never seen the border, and simply wanted to see it.

After explaining our situation, we were told that we needed to drive through the border station in the future. It is a trip to Glacier National Park that I will never forget. I hope that my story will prevent someone from making the same mistake.
