When Will Montana Get Its First Enormous Snow Storm?
Temperatures are cooling down in Montana, and winter is on the way. Higher elevations in the state have already received snow, and it's only September. However, it's not uncommon for snow to start falling early in Big Sky Country. So, when will Montana get its first big snowstorm this year?
When Does It Start Snowing in Montana?
Winter weather in Montana can be unpredictable, and it can snow at any time during the year. According to the University on Montana, snow usually starts to fall in October. In 2023, nearly a foot a snow fell the week before Halloween in Bozeman, forcing children to wear snow boots with their costumes.
While snow typically starts falling in November, it varies depending on the year. Montana is known for its long winters, and it can even snow during the summer. Early winter weathers predictions indicate that the upcoming winter could be warmer than normal. The Old Farmer's Almanac predicts that the coldest temperatures will be in late November. Mid-November is forecasted to be the snowiest.
Once we get into 2025, more snow storms are predicted for the beginning of January and mid-March.
Using information from early weather predictions, it looks like November will be a very snowy month in Montana, but don't be surprised if your commute to work involves snow as early as October. Montana's winters can be harsh and unforgiving. It's important that you're prepared for changing weather.
