Update on Forest Park situation: The hostage has been released and is safe. Law Enforcement officers continue to negotiate with the suspect, who remains barricaded at this time.

Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer issued an update on the armed hostage situation near Four Corners in Gallatin County.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are currently on scene at the Forest Park Trailer Court located on Norris Road just west of Four Corners.

At 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office received a call about a male that had shown up at a residence and taken a female hostage. Sheriff Springer says the man is armed with a pistol and a taser.

The suspect remains in the residence with the female. Negotiators are currently communicating with the suspect attempting to get him to release the hostage.

Springer says the number one priority right now is life safety. Multiple law enforcement agencies are on scene from Gallatin County and throughout the state.

A shelter in place has been ordered and neighboring residents have been evacuated. The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office is working with the Red Cross and the Salvation Army to try and figure out a place for evacuated residents tonight if needed.

Special Responses Teams from Gallatin County & Lewis & Clark County are currently on scene with armored vehicles.

Sheriff Springer says the investigation is ongoing, and a motive has not been established. Norris Road remains open, but residents are not allowed in the Forest Park Trailer Court.

These kinds of events are always fluid. It's difficult to predict the future of these kinds of things. Even though he is communicating with us and we think we have a good rapport, we hope things don't change but they can. We hope that he follows through on what his plans are with us, and if that happens, she'll be safe and the community will be safe.

said, Sheriff Springer.
