Bozeman’s Hidden Gem, In-Town Duck Pond

When you need a quick Zen break by a duck pond, you don't have to wade through the campus of Montana State University. That little duck pond is lovely, but it's not a mellow scene.

Especially during the crazy summer months, Bozeman's energy changes for me. Running errands around town is not pleasant. The streets are absolutely packed. Obviously it gets hotter. People's patience seems much shorter.

I've learned a good trick to make those "running all over town" days a bit more tolerable and it's very simple. Take a 5 minute break...right in the middle of town. Here's my latest 'secret' chill-for-5-minutes stop: The little duck pond just north of the Kenyon Noble location on Oak Street.

You've probably driven by this pretty little pond before, but next time...pull over and quietly check it out. It's chock full of ducks and smaller, colorful birds. I was just there today and there were several families of ducks, meaning tons of little ducklings.

The pond is right next to the road on North 11th Avenue, just shy of the intersection with East Baxter. That corner is home to the Homewood Suites by Hilton Bozeman. (This pond is basically in the backyard of the Homewood Suites.)

It's nothing fancy. It's not developed. It's on the side of the road. There are no benches or tables. (If you're like me, you always keep a folding camp chair in the back of your car so you can always have a seat.)

It doesn't look like much from a Google Map satellite photo, but it's small and lovely. Check it out next time you drive by and need a minute. Just be quiet and enjoy the ducks.
