Watch Out, MTV! Diddy Is Creating a New Music Channel
Sean “Diddy” Combs made a name for himself as a rapper and producer, but after taking on his own clothing line, brand of vodka and fragrance, he’s now setting his sights on the television industry.
According to Broadcasting & Cable, the 42-year-old mogul has created a music-themed cable network called Revolt, which is projected to launch on Dec. 12 — that’s 12/12/12, by the way. The channel is described as a “music and music news channel with an urban skew,” with programming aimed at an African American audience.
Former MTV programming executive Andy Schuon is involved with the project, and distribution has reportedly been secured with Comcast and Time Warner Cable. However, Comcast would not confirm Diddy’s involvement, and Time Warner Cable only admitted to having “some discussions” about Revolt without making any official comments.
In addition to his Sean John clothing line, which he founded in 1998, Diddy owns the restaurant chain Justin’s, named after his son. He was featured in Fortune Magazine’s ’40 under 40′ in 2002, and ranked No. 1 of the Top 10 richest people in hip-hop. In 2003, he developed the Ciroc brand of vodka in the U.S., and has been an active musician throughout it all.
Diddy’s last release was the 2010 album ‘Last Train to Paris’ under his Diddy-Dirty Money moniker, which peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.
