Experts Say Doomsday On The Way. What Does That Mean For Montana?
Well, this is certainly a bit alarming.
For those not aware, apparently, our government has some sort of countdown clock to when some horrible, life-changing catastrophic event is going to happen, and that clock was updated yesterday.
The clock, which was established back in 1947 by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists is intended to show humans how are actions could cause catastrophic damage to not only humanity but the planet itself. Over the years the times have varied, however, the update yesterday is especially alarming because we've never been this "close to midnight" before.
The CEO of the organization, Rachel Bronson said the following yesterday according to CBS News:
"We are living in a time of unprecedented danger, and the Doomsday Clock time reflects that reality. Ninety seconds to midnight is the closest the clock has ever been set to midnight, and it's a decision our experts do not take lightly."
Some of the reasons behind the jump include the following:
- War in Ukraine
- Threats of Nuclear War
- Crop Failures
- World Pollution
- Covid-19
- Weather Extremes
What does that mean for Montanans and how can we prepare? Well, in certain cases, there isn't much we can do. In the event of a nuclear war, Montana is one of the top targets along with North Dakota and Wyoming because all three states have Minute Men 3 ICBM bases located in them.
However, in other instances, we Montanans have a little more control of our destiny.
Food storage, batteries, bottled water, generators, ammo, extra pet food, and a deep freeze or two are all ways that Montanans can prepare themselves for the "dark days" ahead.
Not to mention, those items also can help out in the case of a local or state emergency like we saw this past summer with the floods that swept across southwestern Montana. There are several different food items that you can purchase while doing your normal shopping that won't break the bank.
Things like canned goods, peanut butter, rice, and other grains can have a long shelf life when stored correctly. So whether we have 90 seconds to Midnight, or this is all a lot of nothing, it's always good to be prepared.
