It's no secret; Montana is a popular place. In fact, over the last few years, it's become one of the most popular spots in the nation to move to.

This, of course, has caused some friction for a lot of Montanans, as they fear their way of life here could be in danger. Unfortunately, those folks certainly aren't going to like what I'm about to pass along.

It seems that the migration to Montana is not done, although it might be slowing down just a little.

Our friends over at MoveBuddha just released some new information that breaks down some numbers as far as the move-in rate in Montana goes. Although the numbers aren't as high as they were in 2020 and 2021, Montana is still a very popular place to move to (we're ranked #4) and it seems that folks from certain states are coming here at a much higher percentage than other states.

So, which states have the most transplants to Montana?

According to the data, a couple of west coast states make up almost 30 percent of the people moving to Montana. Oh, and if you pay any attention to the out-of-state plates, you probably won't be too surprised to know those two states are California and Washington.

They're followed by Arizona, Texas, and Oregon. I was a little surprised by the Texas part. Every Texan I've ever known thinks Texas is the greatest place on the planet. However, California, Oregon, and Washington do make sense.

Plus, it seems that our friends in those states pay more in taxes and fees and whatnot, so an escape to Montana might be a great deal for them, although most locals would agree it hasn't been a great deal for Montanans. Many feel that the high prices of homes and apartments are a direct result of folks moving from California, Oregon, and Washington.

So will the drop in people moving here result in a drop in prices in Montana? Fingers crossed.
