A new Hunger Games prequel movie is in development at Lionsgate after author Suzanne Collins revealed she’s working on a new book set in Panem during the “Dark Days," a.k.a. 64 years before Katniss Everdeen volunteered as tribute.

“I wanted to explore the state of nature, who we are and what we perceive is required for our survival,” she said in a statement via The Hollywood Reporter. “The reconstruction period 10 years after the war, commonly referred to as the Dark Days—as the country of Panem struggles back to its feet—provides fertile ground for characters to grapple with these questions and thereby define their views of humanity.”

Even though the book doesn't come out until May 2020, Collins also confirmed Lionsgate, who adapted her previous three Hunger Games books into four movies, will bring the prequel to the big screen as well.

“As the proud home of the Hunger Games movies, we can hardly wait for Suzanne’s next book to be published. We’ve been communicating with her during the writing process and we look forward to continuing to work closely with her on the movie,” Joe Drake, chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said.

The Hunger Games film franchise grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide and made stars out of Jennifer LawrenceLiam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson. However, don't expect to see any of these actors in the movie since it's set more than 40 years before Katniss, Peeta and Gale were even born.

In fact, 64 years back would be around the tenth or eleventh Hunger Games and as some fans pointed out on Twitter, this means the prequel could involve the character Mags, who was the winner of those games.
