Although the side roads are not expected to open until next month, the road up Hyalite Canyon south of Bozeman is now open along with campgrounds.

According to the Bozeman Ranger District:

  • Hyalite Road will open to motorized use on Monday, May 16th along with campgrounds and other developed sites in the drainage will also open for the summer on May 16th.
  • Side roads will open June 16 as the snow continues to melt and those roads also dry out.
  • The expanded interim target shooting restriction went into effect on April 20th
  • Target shooting in Hyalite drainage is restricted throughout the drainage to address the safety and natural resource management concerns but the restriction does not affect hunting.
