Higher Learning? Montana High Schools Ranked From Best To Worst.
Most of us can agree that a good education is an essential part of becoming a well-rounded, productive member of society. I think we can also agree that across the state of Montana, not all schools are created equal.
There are a few different factors that go into this, the quality of teachers, the administration, the support of the community, and course, money.
So, let's take a look at the top schools versus the schools that could use some help. For our purposes, we will look at only Montana High Schools and use data that has been provided by other sources.
The website Moms Who Think breaks down schools across the state that are both overachieving and underperforming when it comes to Montana state standards. Taking a look at that data, we can see which Montana High Schools are considered the best and which ones are the worst.
The Best
Lone Peak High School
Located in Gallatin Gateway is a small school with some big numbers. The High School has a graduation rate of 100% and the ACT scores are higher than the state average. Throw in the fact that there is a low student-to-teacher ratio, and Lone Peak is one of the very best in the state.
Fairfield High School
Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Montana is another high school that has a perfect graduation rate. Not only that, but the average ACT score is 23 compared to the state average of 19.
Gardiner High School
Gardiner High School is also one of the best high schools in the state and like both Fairfield and Lone Peak, they also have a 100% graduation rate. Not to mention that a third of the students are enrolled in the AP courses the school offers.
The Worst
Rocky Boy High School
Located in Box Elder, MT the Rocky Boy School is not meeting state standards in English or Math. In fact, according to the data, only 19% of students are proficient in English, while 24% are proficient in Math.
Wolf Point High School
Wolf Point High only has a percentage of 13 when it comes to High School graduates pursuing a college degree. This is interesting since the number of students enrolled in AP classes is 3 times higher than the state average.
Lodge Grass High School
The Montana state average for high school graduates is 86%, the percentage of graduates at Lodge Grass High School is 29%, and out of that, only 5% move on to sort of higher learning.
