Montana Mountains Hit By Huge Late-Summer Snowstorm
Mother Nature must not have a calendar, because Montana was just hit by a snowstorm during the first week of summer.
Just days into the first week of summer, mountains across Montana were blanketed in snow. Near Bozeman, both Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Resort shared pictures of the late-June snowstorm. Discovery Ski Area reported 7" of new snow on Sunday, with more expected to fall throughout the week.
The storm also impacted travel, closing the Beartooth Highway at the Montana/Wyoming state line early Monday morning.
Lower elevations across the state are receiving much-needed rain, while mountains are getting blanketed with snow. As unusual as late-June snow may seem, it's actually not uncommon in Montana. If you've lived in the state long enough, you've experienced a few early summer snowstorms.
Honestly, the rain and snow couldn't have come at a better time. Montana experienced an unusually dry winter, so we'll take all the moisture we can get. Hopefully, it will help ease concerns about fireworks and fire season as we head into the hottest part of the summer.
With the 4th of July coming up, most of us are thinking about backyard barbecues and warm weather. Looking at the forecast, things are expected to clear up by the weekend, so don't cancel your plans just yet.
I know most of us are happy to see the snow as long as it's in the mountains and not in the valleys. We've been waiting months for summer, so hopefully it shows up soon.
