As of August 2023, adult-use recreational cannabis sales in the state had already reached $23,728,009 for the year, according to the Montana Department of Revenue. From January 2022 to date, adult-use sales have totaled $516,237,988.

According to a recent article in the Chicago Tribune, Montana ranks in the top 15 for regular cannabis use in America, and surprisingly ranks higher than California, based on use per capita. Montana ranked #14 out of all 50 states. Vermont ranked #1, followed by Oregon at #2. Montana ranks 8th nationwide for first-time cannabis users.
