NOT OK.  I graduated from Williston, ND - and my family is in Watford City, ND - right in the middle of all of this oil drilling madness.  I have seen it first hand.  The good parts - the bad parts - I have seen a glimpse of them all.

My friends and family there have been immersed in this for the past couple of years.  I have seen elderly people kicked out of their homes due to a MASSIVE increase in their rent, I have seen friends leave town to be safe, and I have seen the positive outcome of the money that has come into the area.  BUT - this is just not ok.  According to inforum.com - one of North Dakota's state parks has been GIVEN to the oil company. Little Missouri State Park has been given to Burlington Resources, a division of ConocoPhillps.  But don't worry - according to the agreement the oil company has promised to repair any damage to trails. HA!  By the way - the currently planned wells WILL be seen (duh) from within the park and will disrupt it's use (double duh).

To make this whole thing worse, it's been kept a secret since the deal was done IN DECEMBER! They are even still marketing and advertising for people to enjoy the park as normal "Just avoid the trucks and don’t get too close to the gas flares."  REALLY????

Come on residents and former residents of North Dakota.  Let them know that to us - THIS IS NOT OK.  It's one thing to rip up the land, its quite a different issue in my mind when you are talking about a NATIONAL STATE PARK.  Can you imagine the uproar if they decided to drill in Yellowstone or Glacier!??
