Stage 1 Fire Restrictions Implemented For Bozeman Area

The Custer Gallatin National Forest will implement Stage 1 fire restrictions at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, June 25. Beginning Friday, the restrictions will be in place at Hebgen Lake, Bozeman, Gardiner and Yellowstone Ranger Districts.

Under Stage 1 fire restrictions:

Stove fires, campfires and charcoal fires will only be allowed at developed designated recreation sites or campgrounds where Forest Service metal fire rings are provided. Fires within rock fire rings are not allowed.
Camping stoves fueled using liquid petroleum or LPG fuels may be used anywhere on National Forest System lands.
Smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is cleared of all flammable materials.
No fires allowed within designated or recommended wilderness or wilderness study areas.
Forest Service outfitters and guides are allowed to have a fire in a stove with a properly installed and maintained spark arrester.

According to a press release, the restrictions will be implemented due to drought-like conditions that expected to worsen as hot, dry, windy weather persists. The Custer Gallatin National Forest also wants to remind people that with the 4th of July holiday approaching, fireworks are always prohibited on all National Forest System Lands.

Stage 1 fire restrictions, with additional fire or campfire closures, will be also be implemented in the Red Lodge, Nye, Pryor Mountains, Ashland, Ekalaka and Camp Crook areas.
