Bozeman Police are investigating a report that on Tuesday February 5, 2013 a female first grade Hyalite Elementary student was contacted by a male in a pickup truck near the intersection of West Babcock and Yellowstone Avenue while walking home from school.

As the female walked by, the male reportedly opened the passenger-side door of the truck and stated, “Get in the truck.” The female told him “no” and ran back to an adult on Babcock. The girl stated the truck drove away after she began to run away.

The truck was described as a dirty, black, two door older model pickup truck (possibly a Ford Ranger or similar size) with an extended cab. The male was described as possibly in his 20’s, having brown hair, short brown facial hair and wearing a black coat. There was also a black dog of unknown breed in the truck cab.

Anyone with information on this incident should contact Bozeman Police at 406-582-2000. We would ask that anyone observing a vehicle and subject matching this description, especially in the vicinity of our schools, report it immediately by calling 911.

Parents are encouraged use this as an opportunity to speak with their children about stranger safety and what to do if approached by an unknown person. Officers will continue to maintain a visible presence in the vicinity of our schools, and proactively patrol, as we investigate this incident.
