Sweet Tooth? The Top 5 Holiday Pies, According To Montanans
The holiday season is here and with it comes a myriad of traditions; decorations, shopping, get-togethers, and of course, food.
So much of what we do this time of year revolves around food. From unique family recipes that have been passed down through the years to holiday favorites, Montanans love to celebrate with culinary delights. One of the staples for the holidays, of course, is pie.
Many tables across Montana will be adorned with holiday pies in the next few weeks, but when it comes to these classic holiday favorites, which ones do Montanans prefer?
In a recent poll, Montanans answered that question, and you can check out the results below.
Cherry Pie
It only makes sense that cherry pie would be a Montana favorite, especially since some of the world's finest cherries are grown here. For many Montanans, it is a tradition to pit and freeze those delicious Flathead cherries to be used later in a magnificent holiday pie.
Strawberry Rhubarb Pie
Rhubarb pie is extremely popular in the United Kingdom, however, it is very tart. So to give it some sweetness, folks tend to add strawberries and sugar to balance it out. While it might not be for everyone, many Montanans love it.
Pecan Pie
This southern classic is always a favorite this time of year. While there are several different modifications that you can make (chocolate, bourbon, whiskey) one thing is for sure; there's a good chance that many Montanans will be having a piece of pecan pie this holiday season.
Pumpkin Pie
For many Montanans, the holidays mean pumpkin pie. This Thanksgiving classic is one of the most iconic holiday foods of all time. Over the years, pumpkin has become very popular in other forms, such as coffee drinks, cheesecakes, and even breakfast cereal. However, chances are, if you were to be invited to a Montana Thanksgiving, you would find pumpkin pie.
Apple Pie
For whatever reason, apple pie is a big hit around the great state of Montana. We do grow some delicious apples. While several folks picked this all-time classic, a few suggested modifications, such as adding ice cream, or another fruit to make it complete.
