Three Parents Input On Masking Their Kids. How Do You Feel About It?
As news broke through the country regarding masking kids and not masking kids, the subject has become quite heated in some communities. Some parents feeling very strong that they would prefer their kids to wear masks while at school, where some parents have made it very clear they do not and will not mask their children while at school. Some stating they feel like they are being told what they can and can not do with their children regarding their child's health. I decided to ask a few friends that are on both sides of the decisions regarding masks. I will call them Parent 1, Parent 2, and Parent 3. I simply asked all three "How do you feel about your child having to wear a mask at school?"
Parent 1: She is for masks on the kiddos while at school. She says, "I want my daughter protected, whether that is her not spreading her germs, or other kids not spreading theirs. I don't know where other families have been, I don't know if they are vaccinated, and therefore, I don't want to take the risk. This is a serious thing, and they say that kids are spreading the Delta rapidly".
Parent 2: "There is NO WAY IN He** I am putting a mask on my kid! This is so ridiculous. Not the government, the school district, or ANYONE is gonna tell me what I can and can not do with my kid. I don't go to their house and tell their family what they can and can't do. It's absolutely the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Masks don't stop the spread. If they did then why are we still getting Covid? We wore masks for over a year and the spread continued."
Parent 3: "Here is the deal. If you want your kid to wear a mask, then have them wear one. If you don't want your kid to wear a mask, then don't. I don't know why we are mandating this. I think the parent should be able to decide. Make it optional. You can have your kid wear a mask and protect themselves. If other kids are not wearing one, but your kid is, isn't it sort of the same thing? You are still protecting your child, right? I just think it should be up to the person, not the school or government or whoever. It's simple if you want to wear one, do it. If you don't want to wear one, then don't."
I guess I am personally on the fence with this decision. I know my kid is not excited about wearing a mask, but I mean, who really likes it? If I had my choice, I would say optional mask-wearing would be ideal. Just my opinion. I personally think if things would have been left optional, there would be less tension and animosity regarding it. I think the fact that there is not a choice, is what fuels the fire. For the time being, our household will just follow the rules. So masks at school are what we will be doing.
