If you're planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park in 2025, there are a few important things you need to know before you go. Here's a handy guide to help you prepare for your trip.
Your experience at Yellowstone will be different depending on the time of year that you decide to visit. Early spring is a great time to visit if you want to avoid the crowds. Wildlife is usually more active during the spring as well.
Important Things You Need to Know About Yellowstone National Park
With snow melting, bears and other forms of wildlife are on the move in the park, so make sure you pack a pair of binoculars.

The only road that is open year-round in the park is the North entrance to the Northeast entrance. Below, you can find a list of projected opening dates for other roads in YNP.
All dates are subject to change depending on weather conditions.
- Open April 18 - October 31, 2025 - West Entrance to Madison, Madison to Old Faithful, Madison to Norris, Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris, Norris to Canyon Village.
- Open May 2 - October 31, 2025 - East Entrance to Lake Village (Sylvan Pass), Canyon Village to Lake Village.
- Open May 9 - October 31, 2025 - South Entrance to West Thumb, West Thumb to Old Faithful (Craig Pass), West Thumb to Lake Village, Tower-Roosevelt to Tower Falls.
- Open May 23 - October 31, 2025 - Canyon Village to Tower Fall (Dunraven Pass). This is a high elevation pass that generally experiences winter weather earlier than other roads in the park. As with all other roads, the closing date is subject to change.
The park is huge, so plan your route ahead of your trip. There are also limited amenities in the park, so it's important for fill up your gas tank and stock up on snacks before you head in.
Stay at least 100 yards from bears & wolves, and 25 yards from bison, elk , and other wild animals. Always carry bear spray. For additional information about Yellowstone National Park, click here.
