Walmart CEO Doug McMillon has announced that Walmart will stop the sale of handgun ammunition.  This announcement comes on the heels of shootings in Odessa and Midland, Texas and a shooting that occurred inside a Walmart store in El Paso.

According to a press release Walmart "will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber."  They will also sell through and discontinue all handgun ammunition and will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska which was the last state in which they were sold.

In addition to ending sales of handgun ammunition Walmart is asking customers to refrain from open carrying in stores.
