It's that time of year. The weather is getting nicer and people and their pets are eager to get outdoors and enjoy all that the Bozeman area has to offer.

Bozeman is home to a lot of dog owners, and if you spend time walking along any of the area hiking trails in the Bozeman area, surely see little bags of dog poop scattered along the trails.

With the recent growth Bozeman has seen, the situation is understandably getting much worse. More people with dogs on the trails equals more dog poop.

Personally, I always do my best to clean up after my dog when I'm in an area that is shared with other people that live here. That means not only picking it up, but packing it out as well.

I get it, nobody wants to carry around a bag of dog poop, but if you take your dogs hiking with you, it's your responsibility. I was hiking near Drinking Horse a couple weeks ago and couldn't believe the amount of little bags of dog poop laying along the trail.

We all want to get out and enjoy the beautiful area we live in, but that comes with the responsibility of keeping it the pristine place that it is.

Bring along and extra bag or some sort of Ziploc if you plan on hiking with your pets. I understand there are a lot of new people here, but those of us that have been here for a while need to show the newcomers the ropes and lead by example.
