Finding affordable housing in Bozeman has become an increasingly difficult challenge. Skyrocketing home prices have made homeownership a struggle not only in Bozeman but across many cities in Montana. However, there’s good news for those seeking affordable options: a new housing project has been approved and is moving forward.

Federal and Local Funding Pave the Way

The Montana Department of Commerce recently allocated $3.2 million in federal funding to support affordable housing initiatives in four Montana communities. Bozeman’s share exceeds $1.5 million, earmarked for a new housing development. Additionally, in May 2024, the City of Bozeman committed $2 million to this important project.

Paul Green, director of the Montana Department of Commerce, emphasized the significance of affordable housing, stating:

“The health and well-being of our families, communities, businesses, and economy rely on access to affordable, attainable housing. Financing through the HOME Investment Partnership Program and the Housing Trust Fund will support the construction and rehabilitation of nearly 250 affordable homes for the Billings, Bozeman, Dillon, and Laurel communities.”

Details of the Hidden Creek Apartments Project

Gallatin County has partnered with United Housing Partners and HRDC to bring the Hidden Creek Apartments to life. Funding has been secured for this ambitious development, which will include:

  • 182 Low-Income Housing Tax Credit apartments
  • 8 equity-restricted rowhomes through a community land trust
  • A county-owned parcel reserved for future community use

Location and Timeline

The Hidden Creek Apartments will be constructed on a vacant parcel of land located north of the existing Gallatin County Rest Home on Durston Road and south of Juniper Street. While a completion date for the project has not yet been announced, updates will be provided as more details become available.

This project marks a significant step forward in addressing Bozeman’s affordable housing crisis and offering much-needed relief for residents. For more information about the Hidden Creek Apartments and the city’s ongoing affordable housing efforts, click [here].
