Is This Really Bozeman’s Answer To Affordable Housing?

You would think the city would take this seriously, but this has to be a joke, right? There has to be a better plan. 

We've talked at length recently about affordable housing in Bozeman and how the city has done nothing to solve the problem. We have even come up with a few ideas about where they could build an affordable apartment complex, but the city doesn't seem to have any significant plans in motion. There is, however, one small effort to create affordable housing.

A new condo complex called 9Ten is currently under construction and will have affordable prices. According to NBC Montana, the new complex will be built between 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue behind the Darigold Plant. Then there is the fine print. 

About 20% of the units will be an affordable price for the Bozeman area's workforce. It's a 100-unit complex, and maybe twenty spots will be at an affordable price. Are you serious? Only twenty units? That would be like dropping a pebble in a lake. It won't make a difference. 

The report says that 90% of the units will be sold under the current market prices. That idea seems decent, but the current market price for a condo is almost $600,000. That's mind-blowing. 

The City of Bozeman says they care about the crisis that is happening with the housing market in the area, but we beg to differ. Affordable housing has been an issue for years, and the city is trying to catch up with the problem. 

Until the city makes a plan that can benefit the hardworking people trying to live in Bozeman, there will be no solution.
