Bear Tranquilized in Bozeman: Here’s What Happened

A black bear was tranquilized and removed from a Bozeman neighborhood on Monday, September 19th.

In an interesting turn of events, a curious black bear made its way into the neighborhood and climbed a tree. The stubborn bear refused to come down and had to be removed by Bozeman Fire.

When you have a black bear comfortably not coming down from a tree after being stung by a tranquilizer from a Fish Wildlife and Parks Game Warden, Who ya gonna call? Bozeman Fire! These firefighters brought a variety of ladders and equipment to help get this tired bear safely down and carried away to be relocated. Truly an all-hazards fire department… always happy to help our fellow responders and of course wildlife.

Black bears are seen frequently in the Bozeman area, but sometimes they get a little too close for comfort.

In 2015, a black bear was removed from Bozeman High School. Here's a video of the bear roaming the hallways.

With colder temperatures right around the corner, bears will become more active in an attempt to fatten up before winter arrives. Make sure your trash cans are stored in a place that bears can't get to. Otherwise, you might end up with a trash can glitter bomb in your front yard. One of my coworkers learned about that the hard way.

If you see a black bear in your yard, contact Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks or Bozeman Fire. It's best to leave bear removal to the experts.
