That TV spot for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters is called “The Slimers.” And if you watch through to the end, you see Slimer driving a car (ghosts can drive?) with a female Slimer. I guess that makes her a Slimette? I don’t know. Either way, she has hair and bright lipstick. Ghosts have hair? And lips? Is there ghost lipstick? Or can she use regular human lipstick?

This movie gets curiouser and curiouser, but I’m glad the new film’s sense of gender equality extends to the characters who are already dead. And I guess I’m happy for Slimer; he’s been on his own for 30 years, with only the Real Ghostbusters to keep him company, it’s probably really nice to have some companionship of any kind, much less a new lady friend. But they look so alike! Are they sibling ghosts? I have so many questions about this 15-second television commercial. I just hope the finished film answers them all.

There’s also another new Ghostbusters TV spot this week called “Ghost Problem.”

I can’t entirely tell whether this Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is made of marshmallow or is some kind of parade balloon or something? (If that’s the case, I don’t know why the new Ghostbusters are zapping him with their proton packs.) I do like the bit where Melissa McCarthy can’t control her ghostbusting gun and it throws her all over the place. That’s some classic McCarthy physical comedy in the style of Spy (where she repeatedly battled her own clumsiness as she tried to save the world).

Ghostbusters opens in theaters on July 15. I hope all of my confusion is cleared up then.
