UPDATE From Lewis & Clark County Sheriff's Office: It is with great sadness we report that Meghan was located by our search and rescue divers around 3:40 pm this afternoon. She is deceased.

She was located in 11 feet of water in the Missouri River, about 100 feet from shore. Meghan will be taken to the crime lab in Missoula Montana to help determine the cause and manner of death.

Her Husband, his family, and Meghan’s family wish to thank all of you who helped search for her. You held out for hope and gave them comfort that they were not alone in this ordeal. The members of my office and I are grateful for each and every one of you who demonstrated compassion and courage for this family. Some of you knew Meghan, some of you did not, but you came to help in time of need. Thank you.

Authorities are searching for a 27-year-old Montana woman who vanished while horseback riding near Helena. Her horse and phone were found on Saturday, but her whereabouts remain a mystery.

Meghan Rouns left her home in Helena, Montana on Friday, October 4 to go horseback riding in the McMaster Hills Recreation Area. After that, she was never seen again. According to the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, multiple law enforcement agencies are assisting with the search for the missing Montana woman.

Search Continues For Missing Horseback Rider in Montana

When Roans didn't return home six hours later, her family contacted authorities to report her missing. Her location remains unknown. On Saturday, October 5, search and rescue crews found Meghan's horse and phone inside a saddle bag. The search has intensified, and Sheriff Leo C. Dutton released the following update on Monday.

We are concentrating our search on a section of the Missouri River. Please stay clear of the search area, this includes the water search area. If people try to get there, they will endanger our SCUBA divers. Please do not interfere with the search.

Search crews from Lewis & Clark County and Jefferson County began searching for Rouns on Saturday, and Malmstrom Air Force Base sent a helicopter to join in the search on Sunday. Boulder, Montana resident Jake Martenis who gave us permission to use the photos below, said he was impressed by the outpouring of support from volunteers that joined the search and provided food and drinks.

Search For Montana Women Gets National Attention

The search for Meghan Roan has garnered significant national attention, appearing on major news outlets like Fox News and the Daily Mail. The last known contact anyone had with Meghan was at around 4:20 p.m. Friday when she reportedly sent a message on Snapchat, although she was last seen at around 2:00 p.m.
