There have been many movies filmed in Montana that show off the beauty of our state, but what is the most famous location?

Love Exploring released a list of the Most Famous Movie Locations in Every State and Montana has had quite few popular locations for filming in its history. From Bozeman and Missoula for A River Runs Through It or railroad tracks used near Lewistown, Montana for Broken Arrow. There's quite a few locations to choose from, but the one Love Exploring chose is a movie I loved growing up and I still enjoy watching today.

The most famous movie location in Montana is apparently Glacier National Park. So Glacier National Park has been used for a few movies but most prominently in the outdoor thriller The River Wild. The movie came out in the mid-90's and featured huge stars like Academy Award winner Meryl Streep, Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly, and David Strathairn.

The film is about a rafting trip gone wrong featured the Kootenai River near Libby and the Flathead River at Glacier National Park. The movie definitely shows off the beauty of Montana and how rafting in Montana truly is. Here's the trailer for the movie.

I loved this movie growing up and it's still a favorite to watch when I find it on a streaming service. It's criminally underrated and has some great rafting action shots that Montanans would love.

The thing is, if you are picking the most famous movie location you have to pick A River Runs Through It. The river shots from the Gallatin, Yellowstone, and Boulder rivers are majestic and shows why Montana is famous for fly fishing.

Hopefully we can keep this going and get some more high profile movies shoot in Montana and show the beauty.
