Montana Construction Crews Pausing Work for Memorial Day Weekend

If you're planning on hitting the road over Memorial Day Weekend, you'll be happy to know that you won't have to deal with road work in Montana.

Spring in Montana also brings the start of construction season. Crews work tirelessly throughout the spring and summer to complete projects before winter arrives.

According to a press release from the Montana Department of Transportation, no work is planned over Memorial Day Weekend. Crews will plan to be off of construction sites by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, and won't resume work until the morning of Tuesday, June 1. MDT say that even though workers will not be present, motorists are asked to please continue to follow all posted speed limits and watch for updates on detours and changing road conditions.

MDT also reminds travellers to buckle up and wear a seatbelt if they're hitting the road over the holiday weekend. 48% of the fatalities on Montana roadways this year have involved improper restraints. Law enforcement agencies across Montana are adding additional patrols to educate the public on proper seat belt use and crack down on motorists who fail to buckle up. Better to be safe than sorry.

Crews are also putting the finishing touches on the Beartooth Highway before the scheduled opening (weather permitting) tomorrow, May 28th.
