How Much? Check Out the High Price of This Popular Item in MT?
A shortage of a popular condiment has caused prices to skyrocket online. If you want to get a bottle, you should be prepared to open your wallet. You won't believe how much it's selling for.
Personally, I used to use it on everything from scrambled eggs to ramen. It's also used quite often in Bloody Marys. That was before it disappeared from grocery store shelves last year. According to USA Today, a drought in Mexico last year resulted in a shortage of red jalapeño peppers and it had a huge impact on companies that use them as an ingredient in their products.
Sadly, the Sriracha shortage is still alive and well. If you're a fan of the product, don't expect to see it on grocery store shelves anytime soon. Sriracha is made by Huy Fong Foods, a company in southern California.
Can You Still Buy Sriracha?
You can still find bottles of Sriracha on eBay, but the prices will make you cringe. The average price is around $40 per bottle, but I saw a few listed for upwards of $70. If you want more than one bottle, be prepared to pay over &100. It's absolutely insane. I mean, I love using it, but I can't justify paying that much for it. I literally couldn't believe my eyes.
Will it Get Any Better?
Currently, there's no estimate on when supplies could increase, and for lovers of Sriracha, the news is heartbreaking. There's nothing else like it. I know that a lot of Montanans are feeling the pain, If you happen to find a bottle in the grocery store, buy it.
