For Many Montanans, This is the Most Important Day of the Year

Montana is a special place, and if you're lucky enough to call it home, you're lucky enough. There's no other place in the world that compares to the Treasure State, and residents take a lot of pride in living in Big Sky Country.

We all have important days that we like to celebrate each year such as birthdays and anniversaries. The 4th of July could easily be considered Montana's favorite holiday due to the number of freedom-loving patriots that live in the state. Small-town Montana fireworks displays are a great example of the love Montanans have for our country.

You'd think that the date that Montana officially became a part of the union would call for celebration, but for some reason, it's not. In case you didn't know, Montana was the 41st state to be admitted into the Union on November 8, 1889. Many of the more significant events in the state's history actually happen before Montana gained statehood. Lewis & Clark traveled through Montana in the early 1800s, and the Battle of the Little Bighorn took place in 1876.

What Day Do Montanans Celebrate The Most Each Year?

The answer doesn't really come as a surprise considering how much Montanans adore their state. For many, April 6 is the most important day of the year. The only area code in Montana is 406, therefore 4/6 is known as "406 Day." People in Montana love repping their state, and even put 406 bumper stickers on their cars. To be honest, there's no better place than the 406.
