Naughty Or Nice? Is Montana Ranked Near The Top For Rudeness?

When it comes to rudeness, there are certain states that seem to carry a particular reputation.

For many folks, when you ask which states are the rudest, it always seems like the answer comes from states in the Northeastern part of the country or California. While I don't doubt that there is some truth to that, I would also point out that those states often have a faster pace of life as well, and so what really is just people hurrying about their day, might be taken as being rude.

So what about Montana?  How high do we rank on the rudeness level?

Zippia decided to rank all 50 states based on the level of rudeness.  They factored in a few different things to come up with an overall score for each state, and then went ahead and ranked them in order.  So what factors went into deciding?  According to their website, the following were the factors considered.

• Percent of rude drivers
• Average tip
• Amount of cursing to customer service agents
• How rude the rest of the country finds the state

So which state is the rudest? That honor would go to the smallest state in the Union, Rhode Island. Followed by Massachusetts, Virginia, New York, California, Washington, New Jersey, Utah, Illinois, and Ohio. I mean, other than a couple of states, not really a surprise, right?  But what about Montana?  How rude are we?

According to the data, not very, actually.

Montana ranks as the 33rd rudest state in the United States. I'm at all surprised by this, for the most part, Montanans are very friendly in public. Plus, we seem to be pretty decent tippers, and we don't suck at driving. In fact, other than our disdain for Californians, I would rank us as some of the nicest people out there.
