UPDATE: Shedhorn Fire South of Bozeman 60% Contained

Crews have been making a lot of progress on the Shedhorn Fire, located in the Custer Gallatin National Forest between Big Sky and West Yellowstone. The fire is now 60% contained. The fire was first reported Monday, September 27.

On Tuesday, Fire managers lifted an area closure in anticipation of cold and wet weather, which is in the forecast for later this week.

Crews continue working on building fuel breaks and conducting structure assessments as a component of contingency planning in the Cache Creek area. Contingency plans are needed in the event the fire becomes active again.

Officials with the Custer Gallatin National Forest said.

The Shedhorn Fire hasn't grown much in the past week due to favorable weather and the hard work of firefighters. In the latest update, officials estimated the fire at 75 acres. The cause of the Shedhorn Fire is under investigation. 50 firefighters and two helicopters are working to contain the fire. A temporary flight restriction is in place. The use of drones is not allowed near the Shedhorn Fire. No structures are threatened at this time.

Today's forecast calls for hot and dry weather with highs in the high 60s to mid-70s. Today will bring low humidity and increasing winds. A change in the weather pattern is expected with cooler temperatures and higher humidity later on this week. Rain is also in the forecast which will help firefighters and crews working on the Shedhorn Fire.
