My wife and I were on a mission last evening when we went to Winco to get ourselves a green cabbage for the big St. Patrick's Day dinner we're having tonight.

Apparently, we weren't the only ones.

It seems that there might have been a shortage of cabbage throughout Bozeman yesterday, as we talked to a couple who said they had gone to a few stores prior that were out of cabbage.  Luckily, there were still a few left and we were able to both grab one.

I mean, let's face it, today is St. Patrick's Day, and what is St. Patricks Day without corned beef and cabbage right? Surely, as Irish as Montana is, it has to be the preferred meal for the Holiday, correct?

Actually, no.

According to our friends at Zippia.com, Montanans prefer something else.  So, if it's not corned beef and cabbage, then what is Montana's favorite Irish Dish?  It seems that we Montanans prefer corned beef hash for St. Patrick's Day.

Corned beef hash goes great with eggs and it is a pretty popular brunch item, oh, and it's super simple to make.  A quick google search found a 5-star recipe from simplyrecipes.com that should be easy for even a beginner.

Some of the other popular Irish dishes that will be served up today are:

  • Irish Stew
  • Guinness Pie
  • Shepard's Pie
  • Apple Cake
  • Coddle (sausage, chunks of potatoes, and whatever else folks decide to put in)
  • Colcannon (Irish mashed potatoes with cabbage or kale)
  • Soda Bread
  • Irish Coffee

So, what are you planning to do this St. Patrick's Day?  Do you have a favorite dish that didn't make our list?  Whatever it may be, Happy St. Patrick's Day, and may the luck of the Irish be with you all day, and every day.

LOOK: Best Beers From Every State

To find the best beer in each state and Washington D.C., Stacker analyzed January 2020 data from BeerAdvocate, a website that gathers user scores for beer in real-time. BeerAdvocate makes its determinations by compiling consumer ratings for all 50 states and Washington D.C. and applying a weighted rank to each. The weighted rank pulls the beer toward the list's average based on the number of ratings it has and aims to allow lesser-known beers to increase in rank. Only beers with at least 10 rankings to be considered; we took it a step further to only include beers with at least 100 user rankings in our gallery. Keep reading to find out what the best beer is in each of the 50 states and Washington D.C.
