According to a press release, Montana State's spring football session will look different than any other in its history. Head Coach Brent Vigen and his staff will kick off their first Bobcat practices on March 23.

In total, the Bobcats will hold 15 spring practice sessions at Bobcat Stadium.

The one thing I look at is there are teams in our league playing games during the unconventional spring season.

Coach Vigen said. That creates both opportunity and obstacles for the Bobcats, but Vigen looks to frame his team's spring in the context of competition.

We have to be able to somehow get as close to what they're getting from a competition perspective as we can. They're getting that real, live, going-against-someone else competition, and we have to get in that ballpark. We have to create a competitive environment throughout spring football where our guys are challenged. We need to put them into situations where we can learn who will rise to the occasion.

Vigen said.

First-year head coach Brent Vigen welcomes nine starters back on offense and six on defense, and a total of 51 returning letter winners, when camp begins. Learning personnel and installing the team's schemes rise to the top of Vigen's to-do list. "We have to learn about our players and what they are capable of, that's the first thing we think of as coaches," he said. "Additionally our players need to learn our schemes and gain an understanding of what our staff is looking for."
