According to CBS Sports, the Montana State Bobcats are the best Division I college football team in Montana.

In the 2019-2020 season, the Bobcats were ranked #6 in the Big Sky Conference. Overall, the Bobcats were 11-4. However, the Griz weren't far behind at 10-4.

CBS Sports evaluated Division I programs from the FBS and FCS that cover 48 of 50 states. Alaska and Vermont were the only two states without a college football program at either of those levels

CBS Sports looked at last year's (2019) results, and at times used statistics from the last two or three years. They didn't take into consideration the programs that have had the most all-time success in each state. Head-to-head match-ups, championships won and the like were also taken into account as necessary. CBS Sports also emphasized that this is not a projection of the upcoming season.

Here are the teams CBS Sports picked for the top football program in each state.

Here's what CBS Sports said about the Montana State University Bobcats.

With only two Division I programs to choose from -- Montana and Montana State -- this state is cut-and-dry. Montana State has won the last four against Montana and made the FCS semifinals a year ago. The Bobcats win again.

- Ben Kercheval

They aren't wrong. In the last four 'Brawl of the Wild' games, the Bobcats have been victorious.

Here are the results from the last four years.

  • 2016: Bobcats 24, Griz 17
  • 2017: Bobcats 31, Griz 23
  • 2018: Bobcats 29, Griz 25
  • 2019: Bobcats 48, Griz 14

2020 has been a crazy year due to COVID-19. Hopefully we'll be able to cheer on the Bobcats next spring. The Big Sky Conference made the decision to postpone all fall sports until spring 2021.
