Bridger Foothills Fire Officially at 100% Containment

According to a press release from the Custer Gallatin National Forest on October 13, the Bridger Foothills Fire is now 100% contained.

Above average temperatures for over a month and little to no moisture made fire containment efforts more difficult for crews. A cold front that moved into the area on October 5 brought moisture to the Bridger Range, which helped bring the Bridger Foothills Fire to 100% containment.

A combination of variables led fire officials to determine the Bridger Foothill Fire 100% contained.

• No recent growth to the fire perimeter
• Continued work of crews to increase containment
• Recent precipitation event
• Overall cooler seasonal conditions.

The Incident Command Type 4 Team led by Paul Monforton will hand remaining patrols and monitoring to local fire resources at the Bozeman Ranger District with support from the Bridger Canyon Fire Department.

The fire area closure on National Forest Lands has been lifted.  All trails and areas in the Bridger Range are now open to the public. Please continue to use extreme caution when entering areas within the burn zone. Fire behavior is expected to be very minimal, although occasional smoke may be seen in the area.

If you plan on spending time outdoors this fall, remember that fire season is not over.  If you build a fire outdoors, make sure the fire is completely out and cold to the touch before leaving it unattended. 

Be alert and careful while recreation in or near a burn zone. Strong winds can cause fire-damaged trees to fall over.  Stay on the trail and try to move through the area as quickly as possible to avoid exposure to hazards.
