Montana Residents Should Get A “Locals” Discount. Here’s Why
I recently went on a trip to Las Vegas and noticed something very interesting while I was there. It goes without saying that Vegas is a lot different from Montana, but there are a few similarities. In both places, tourism is the leading economic driver. However, in Las Vegas, locals get special deals and discounts, which is something you won't find in Montana.
Each year, millions of people travel to Montana for a chance to witness its scenic splendor. Many businesses in the state look forward to the tourist season and the money that comes along with it. However, the increase in tourism during the summer months isn't always the best experience for local residents. Many places, including restaurants, become overcrowded, which tends to rub locals the wrong way.
Believe it or not, you can buy a home in Las Vegas for far less than what you'd pay in most places in Montana. You'd think it would be more expensive, but it's not. The median home price in Las Vegas is less than half of what it is in Bozeman. Insane, right? Many people in Montana are struggling to simply get by and could use a break. Offering local residents a discount at businesses and attractions would be a great place to start.
SHOULD MONTANA RESIDENTS GET A "LOCALS" DISCOUNT?
My friend lives in Las Vegas, and every place that we visited while I was there offered her a "local" discount. On average, it was about 20%, but it was still a discount. I started wondering why businesses in Bozeman and around Montana don't offer discounts to locals. With so many people moving to the state, something needs to be done to incentivize being a local.
