Fun fact: The Berkeley Pit has a pH higher than Coke.

Another interesting fact: MOST Montanans (57%) have never actually seen the Berkeley Pit in person. Sure, we've all seen documentaries or pictures at the very least but this drone footage gives you a bird's eye view.

Did you know there's a website dedicated to Berkeley Pit statistics? It's called PitWatch.org and it's fascinating. Hey, if we're going to have a Superfund SIte so close, I like to know someone is actually keeping an eye on it.

The Berkeley Pit is a former open pit copper mine in Butte, Montana.

Approximately 320 million tons of ore and over 700 million tons of waste rock were mined from the Butte Hill.

Today, the Pit is filling with highly contaminated water, and managed as a federal Superfund environmental cleanup site.

AND...how cool is this? Montana Tech is building an autonomous boat to cruise around the pit and take detailed measurements! The more you know...
