UPDATE: Gallatin River Flood Advisory Through Wednesday Afternoon

The Gallatin River near Logan is in a precarious spot...minor flooding will be a concern until Wednesday afternoon. 

Montana rivers have experienced unprecedented flooding this season and unfortunately the risks are not yet gone. The Gallatin River near Logan, MT is still under a Flood Advisory with its water levels right at flood stage.

According to the National Weather Service:

• FLOOD ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON.
• WHAT...Elevated river levels caused by rain and snowmelt continues.
• WHERE...Gallatin River at Logan.
• WHEN...Until Wednesday afternoon (June 22).
• IMPACTS...At 8.1 feet, water may cross some smaller roads. At 8.3 feet, minor lowland flooding may occur near Logan.
• ADDITIONAL DETAILS... At 3:00 PM Monday the stage was 8.3 feet.
• The river level is forecast to fluctuate between 8.3 and 8.5 feet through Tuesday before slowly falling around mid-week.
• Action stage is 8.0 feet. Flood stage is 9.0 feet.

What is the difference between a Flood Advisory and a Flood Watch? These are three levels of flood-related alerts that are sent out by the National Weather Service:

• Flood Warning: Take Action! A Flood Warning is issued when the hazardous weather event is imminent or already happening. A Flood Warning is issued when flooding is imminent or occurring.
• Flood Watch: Be Prepared: A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur. A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for flooding. It does not mean flooding will occur, but it is possible.
• Flood Advisory: Be Aware: A Flood Advisory is issued when a specific weather event that is forecast to occur may become a nuisance. This is issued when flooding is not expected to be bad enough to issue a warning. However, it may cause significant inconvenience, and if caution is not exercised, it could lead to situations that may threaten life and/or property.
